Most recently, we have set the ukuleles aside in order to take a more in depth look at xylophone and recorder. Still working on the song "In the Jungle," the students are using these new instruments to play other parts of the piece. For example, we have looked at how to play the "weem-o-way" parts and have even challenged ourselves to play the melody of the song, "In the Jungle, the mighty jungle...".
Once we take a look at all of the instrument parts, the students will get to choose which part they want to work on more individually. When all of the parts are learned, some kids on xylophones, some on ukes, and some on recorders, each class will be able to perform their own version of the song. Just like any ensemble, there will be some musicians who excel at certain instruments and parts, and others will excel at other parts. This opportunity allows the students to perform the part in which they feel most comfortable!

All of the classes have done this, but for some reason I only have a recording of Mrs. Kirby's class! Sorry! But in the recording the students have put together the three chords G, C, and D7 for "The Lion Sleeps Tonight". The kids are doing great! I only wish they had music everyday so we could learn even more!
