These kids did GREAT on their compositions! I think they had a blast creating their very own songs in small groups! Hope you enjoy! (You will have to search through your class to find your song!)

The 4th Grade students have been working very hard on a composition project! This project is a way for me to assess their understanding of form.
Since we have been listening to, and analyzing the form (organization) of so many songs, the students are ready to show how they can organize their very own music into a song that makes sense. If you were to stop by the music room during these class sessions, you would probably lose your mind! We have anywhere from 5 – 7 groups clustered around the music room, storage room and vestibule. All groups are working at the same time on their group songs. To the outsider, it sounds like mass chaos! But I am always amazed that they can still work through the noise to create their own masterpieces! Next week we will share our compositions with the class! I cannot wait! Below is a snapshot of the composition guidelines and the rubric for assessment. Below are more images from our form unit! Throughout the unit, our goal has been to listen for form, identify form, and perform songs with form. Much of our listening and identifying has been done through the use of form cards, and we have also performed on drums and through movements, designated for each section of the song. Some of their favorite songs included "Happy Days", "Let's Go To the Hop", and "Rockin' Robin". I was taking them back to the great sounds of the 50s!
Our final goal will be to create our own songs with various sections and form. We are working on them now, and cannot wait to share soon! |
